Job Summary

The Oncology Supportive Services Coordinator (OSSC) is a key collaborative member of the oncology supportive services team, providing programs and resources for cancer patients at various stages: diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship. The OSSC's role closely aligns with those of nurse navigators, social workers, nutritionists, and the manager of survivorship and supportive services. This teamwork ensures that cancer patients receive comprehensive and coordinated care.

Under the direction and oversight of the Manager of Survivorship and Supportive Services, the OSSC helps manage, assess, and expand transportation, food support, wig and headwear, oncology wellness education, and emotional support programs for oncology patients and their caregivers. The OSSC assists in planning, marketing, and evaluating oncology wellness workshops to ensure compliance with Commission on Cancer Standard 4.8 Guidelines. Additionally, the OSSC identifies the needs of oncology patients by engaging in conversations with patients and their family members about their needs and barriers to care. This information helps identify potential grants and funding sources for oncology programs and resources.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Consistently observes safety and security procedures.  Reports potentially unsafe conditions to appropriate personnel.
  • Identify the complex needs of oncology patients and their caregivers and develop programs to address these needs.
  • Facilitate connections between the oncology support team, patients, and caregivers.
  • Assist with the planning and development of in-person and virtual support programs (such as transportation, food assistance, emotional support, wigs/headwear, and wellness programming) that address patient needs and barriers to care.
  • Serve as a liaison between patients, oncology teams, and community-based organizations to coordinate holistic, wraparound support.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with oncology providers, support teams, and patients/caregivers to aid patients during and after treatment.
  • Participate in oncology workshops and training to learn about local and national oncology support services available to patients during and after active treatment.
  • Research funding opportunities related to oncology support programs and services.
  • Assist with writing and submitting grant applications to secure financial support for supportive care initiatives and patient programming.
  • Track required data for screening and support services grants.
  • Develop educational materials to help oncology patients understand their treatments, as well as the programs and resources available to them.
  • Gather and/or create and promotional materials for oncology supportive services and programs available through GLIN IPA, Kaleida Health, General physician, PC, and other non-profit organizations that assist cancer patients and caregivers.
  • Provide administrative support to the Director of Oncology Support Services.
  • Perform additional duties to support the GLIN IPA Oncology Support team as assigned.

Education and Experience

Education Level: Bachelor’s Degree (Required)
Education DetailsHealth services, healthcare administration, health/natural science, public health, health communication, health psychology, social work, nursing, or similar required. 

Work Experience: Two (2) years' Experience in a healthcare, oncology, or patient advocacy setting. (Required) Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable working with electronic medical records (EMR) and data systems. (Preferred)

This is a full-time position with a pay rate of $21-$24/hour

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job.  Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to market data, education, experience, qualifications, and expertise of the individual and internal equity considerations
